“The state I aim for as an art photographer is of an observer. Not an observer of the world but of what my subconscious finds interesting. When I manage to stop all my professional instincts and cultural learnings and let inner self becomes hard wired to the camera I literally become an observer of my subconscious. This is the complete opposite of when I take photos professionally. Most professional photography requires conscious control over the photograph to achieve the end aims required by the photo, the exception being the work of the great portrait photographers. Professional photographers need to be able to take direction. Personal photographs that expresses who you are require throwing out all professional instincts and letting go in order to explore the world. This is what “Tone Poems” are. They are very personal and even its been 15 years since I took some of them I can still feel the feelings I felt when I took them. I hope you enjoy!”. Paul E Williams.
