Bastille Day no 1 people street reportage photo art print by Photographer Paul E Williams.

“”Pina Dreams” is a series of sequential street photos that explore peoples movements frozen in time. Photography makes living statues out of all of us and it also captures gestures, movement and relationships between people that only last for fractions of seconds. This is one of the most powerful features that stills have over film which makes all photos surreal, even when they try not to be. Unlike film, a captured image suggest a narrative but cannot reveal it fully so our brains try to explain these frozen slices of time by inventing our own narrative to make sense of them. This is what gives photography a dream like quality as we gaze at frozen moments of the past which are often without explanation or reason. As inquisitive and creative animals that need to make sense of what we see we are forced to either add our own captions to photos or reject them as pointless images. We are all permanently creating a world in our heads that is unique to us. When we sit at a street cafe watching the world go by we invent stories about the people that pass by. Thats the fun of street photography. You are capturing moments that then take on a life of their own in the way that Pina Bauch took everyday gestures and movements and crafted them into wonderful powerful dance sequences. I hope you enjoy these captured moments and their relationships and make a narrative you find interesting” Paul E Williams.
