Palermo No 1-8 is a reportage photo art print by Photographer Paul E Williams. The Crypt of the Capuchin Monastery in Palermo houses one of the most macabre sights imaginable. Nearly 8,000 corpses of deceased residents of Palermo, dressed in their best suits stand in niches looking out at the world through skeletal eyes. The catacombs are divided into areas for different classes of people. There is a room for the monks of the Capuchin , for professionals, such as doctors, and a room for women, virgins and infants. Most of the bodies displayed are skeletons but there is one body of a young girls that is still completely in tact and she lies in a coffin looking as if she is asleep. This strange practise is not uncommon in the Mediterranean and there is also a similar, but smaller , Capuchin Monastery in Rome.

“Photography is about capturing how you see the world and what you feel and think about it. A photographer is continuously recording these images even when that are not being captures by a camera. A photographer sees the world photographically all the time. I am constantly framing and evaluating everything I see as potential photographs and some of the photographs I remember the best are ones when I didn’t have a camera to record them. Sightings is a series of photos I came across on my journey through life. There is no common theme apart from I saw, I was moved emotionally and I captured. Please enjoy”. Paul E Williams.
