Flower Press is a series of colour polaroid lift art prints made by photographer Paul E Williams Paul Williams.

“I made this series as part of a commissioned photo art project that require a new look ar flowers. I decided to photograph pressed flowers and the polaroid lift seemed to match the folds of pressed flowers so I married the two together. I hope you enjoy the images”

“ Making polaroid lifts was a precarious and expensive pastime but definitely an exciting way of making photographic images. As a professional photographer I needed to make the creation of polaroid lifts as predictable as possible. Mistakes play a big part in any photographers creative development but luck is for amateur photographers only. To take the chance out polaroid lifts all the photos were taken on a 10x8 Sinar P plate camera on Ektachrome transparency film. I could then copy the 10x8 transparencies on a flash light box onto 10x8 polaroid prints and make the lifts. This meant that the hardest bit of the process was mastering lifting off the emulsion in trays of hot water. It took time to work out how to get the emission off and it was definitely an art rather than a science but once mastered I could do lifts at will and have complete control over the whole process. I hope you enjoy the photos as much as I enjoyed making them. I think you can still do lifts from modern polaroid if you fancy giving it a go “. Paul E Williams

These rare and striking polaroid lifts was taken by Paul E Williams in 1992 and was he was awarded a Polaroid European Final Art Award.
